Mac app data collection

The Thok Mac app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data. It includes no advertising, analytics, tracking, crash-reporting, or third-party service SDKs.

Input Monitoring

macOS requires Input Monitoring permission so Thok can play sounds while you type in other apps. Thok observes physical key codes, modifier flags, and whether a key press is repeating. It uses that information immediately to select and position a sound.

Thok does not read character strings, reconstruct words, save key events, or bypass macOS Secure Keyboard Entry. Password and other protected-input fields may therefore be silent.

Information stored on your Mac

Thok stores only your enabled state, sound preset, and volume preference in the standard macOS preferences system. These settings remain on your Mac and can be removed by deleting the app's preferences.

Network access

The delivered app runs inside the macOS App Sandbox without incoming or outgoing network entitlements. macOS prevents the app from opening network connections, even if a future code change attempted to do so.

Apple services

Apple may process information when you view or download Thok through the Mac App Store. That activity is governed by Apple's privacy policy and is not data collected by the Thok app.

Website analytics

This website uses Umami Cloud to measure page views, the first successful sound-preview play and completion per page load, and App Store link activations. The Mac app remains offline and has no analytics.

Our Umami configuration sends only a fixed page path and title, website identifier and event name. It excludes typed content, email addresses, URL query strings, fragments and referring URLs. It uses no analytics cookies, local storage, session replay or user-supplied identifiers, and respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.

Umami processes network IP addresses and browser information to deliver requests, estimate location and group visits using a rotating identifier. IP addresses are not stored in standard analytics records, but operational or security logs may contain them. Hobby-plan analytics retention is six months. See Umami’s privacy policy. These practices apply to website analytics, not the Mac app.

Website hosting and performance

Cloudflare hosts this website, and Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled to measure website traffic and page-load performance. This service operates separately from our Umami event tracking. The Umami-specific data exclusions and browser privacy-signal controls described above do not describe Cloudflare's collection.

Cloudflare processes requests to serve and protect the website. For information about its handling of data, see Cloudflare’s privacy policy and Web Analytics documentation. These website services are separate from the offline Mac app.
